Frequently Asked Questions - Unmetered Webhosting Service

Q: What is unmetered service?

A: Subscribers of our unmetered services pay a single flat fee no matter how much data they transfer. Please see the service details.

Q: Is there a limit to 'hits' that the sites on unmetered plans receive?

A: No. Zubrcom does not limit the number of hits that the sites on the unmetered plans receive.

Q: Are there any restrictions on the material that can be hosted on Zubr Unmetered Service Platform?

A: Yes, there are. Zubr Unmetered Service Platform cannot be used to host adult material, download or distribution sites. Instead we recommend you use Zubr Guaranteed Service Platform to host any legal content. As with all other services, Zubr Communications AUP/TOS applies.

Q: How do you know what I am hosting?

A: We do not care what you host. We care only about traffic patterns - "If it walks like a duck, sounds like a duck and looks like a duck, and has statistical characteristics of a duck, it is probably a duck". Our software makes that determination for us. Each cluster's aggregate transfer data gets constantly fed into a system that identifies statistically abnormal traffic patterns.

Q: Why are you offering this?

A: Glad you asked. This is a very specific service aimed at very specific type of customers. We want to become an 800 ton elephant in that market space. Oh, and our CTO wants to see pretty utilization graphs.

Q: I am told that no one can provide unmetered service. How can you do this?

A: Our unmetered service offering relies on the economies of scale, automated backend processing software, cluster technology and ability to support massive number of accounts. We have full unthrottled gigabit links to support the infrastructure. Finally, using our backend software, we can nearly instantaneously migrate sites from one cluster to the other, fully utilizing both hardware and network resources.

Q: How are the clusters networked?

A: Every server in the cluster is interlinked with others via a Custer Fabric Switch. Under the constant control of Cluster Controller, CFS acts as a local gatekeeper making sure that no single server unfairly hogs the access capacity. Each CFS switch has two dedicated 100Mbit/sec uplinks into the Customer Attach Switches, which in turn connect via dedicated Gigabit links to the core switching infrastructure.

Q: What is the minimum link speed inside the cluster or the link speed between the cluster and CFS?

A: At the present time, the minimum link speed either between the cluster members or between a cluster and CFS is 10Mbit/sec running at full duplex.

Q: Can my unmetered site be hosted on Windows 2000 server?

A: Yes, it can. Windows 2000 Server is offered as the Zubrcom Unmetered Service Platform.

Q: Can my unmetered site be hosted on Linux server?

A: Yes, it can. Linux 2.6 with our custom enhancements is our most Zubrcom Unmetered Service Platform.

Q: Can my unmetered site be hosted on FreeBSD server?

A: At the present time we are not offering FreeBSD as the Zubrcom Unmetered Service Platform due to a lack of demand. If you are interested in the having us offer this service, please contact the sales department by email or by filling out inquiry form.

Q: Can I get interactive access under the Linux based unmetered plan?

A: Not in the standard configuration. Please contact the sales department by email or by filling out inquiry form for additional information.

Q: Is database access included in the unmetered service plans?

A: Yes, the database access is included in the unmetered service plans. Please refer to them for specific details.
